CIJA
British Columbians are headed to the polls on October 19. To ensure that members of BC's Jewish community and our allies make an informed decision when they cast their ballots, we have launched an Election Hub. This resource centre includes information on CIJA's advocacy priorities, links to British Columbia’s major political parties’ platforms and to important Election BC resources.
In light of recent controversies involving Fred Hahn that highlighted significant systemic antisemitism within many Canadian unions, Jewish union members and allies have launched the Canadian Jewish Labour Committee (CJLC) to unite Jewish workers, foster inclusion within unions, and combat antisemitism in the Canadian Labour movement.

On September 4, 2024, Meta’s Oversight Board ruled that the phrase “From the river to the sea” — a rallying cry, enshrined in Hamas’ charter that means the destruction and elimination of Israel from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea — should not automatically result in content removal on Facebook and Instagram, determining that the phrase itself is not inherently harmful or violent.
In response, the J7, the Large Communities’ Task Force Against Antisemitism, representing the seven largest Jewish Diaspora communities, sent a letter to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. We asked him to reject the Oversight Board's dangerous and short-sighted decision and ensure Meta recognize the harm this phrase poses to the Jewish community worldwide. Read it here.
CIJA joins the Jewish community in applauding Eta Yudin, Vice President, Quebec, and Federation CJA President and CEO Yair Szlak, who were awarded the King Charles III Medal in recognition of their tireless fight against antisemitism, particularly after October 7, and their dedication to enhancing Jewish life in Quebec, defending shared values, and building strong ties between our communities.
