British Columbians are going to the polls to choose their Members of the Legislative Assembly. CIJA is dedicated to helping the Jewish community in B.C. take part in this process.
Housing is the largest cost for many families. According to the Canadian Rental Housing Index, nearly one in five tenant households in Greater Vancouver spends more than half of their income on housing and utilities. As of August 2024, sources such as Rentals.ca place the cost of renting a two-bedroom unit in Vancouver at $3,666 per month.
According to Statistics Canada, the Jewish community is the group most frequently targeted in religiously motivated hate crimes. While the Vancouver Police Department and the RCMP detachments in North Vancouver and Coquitlam provide resources for hate crime reporting, overall, incidents are underreported, and accurate data are therefore not collected.
A diverse B.C. is a strong B.C. This is why we want to make sure that our province is a safe place for all. According to the Vancouver Police Department, reports of antisemitic hate incidents increased 62 per cent in 2023 compared to 2022.
