The CIJA Team
CIJA and Jewish Federations across Canada thank the hundreds of members of the legal community who attended The Abraham Accords: A Turning Point in the Legal World, our sixth annual legal conference. Among many expert panelists and guests were Dr. Tal Becker, Legal Adviser to Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and His Excellency Dr. Ronen Hoffman, Israel's Ambassador in Canada, who explored the legal implications of the Abraham Accords, how bilateral treaties are negotiated, and how lawyers in countries party to the accords view them. On March 9, CIJA will host its annual Jewish Disability Advocacy Day, assembling policymakers, community members, and social service organizations to discuss issues and solutions geared toward making a more accessible Canada. We are encouraged that this year's Jewish Disability Advocacy Day comes in the wake of the Canada Disability Benefit (Bill C-22) being passed unanimously in the House of Commons. If you haven’t already done so, please consider sending a note to thank your MP for passing the benefit. Learn more about CIJA’s priorities here.
‘For 21 years I have endured slurs, “harmless” jokes and swastikas. Yet only recently have I finally felt truly afraid. For 21 years, mainstream civil society has looked the other way as antisemitism continued to rise.’
Ben Dodek, conflict studies and human rights student at the University of Ottawa, shares his experience with rising antisemitism in Canada’s civil society.
