This week in Canadian Jewish Advocacy | November 19, 2023
This week, we called on our Prime Minister to stand with Israel, support democracy, and reject hate and terrorism. We also called out a Canadian ‘peace’ group for their biased and dangerous perspective; reflected on the troubling similarities between the Holocaust and the October 7 Hamas massacre; and discussed with the Globe and Mail the frightening rise of violence directed at Jews in Canada. Read on to learn more.
The CIJA Team
We need your help to tell our federal government that the time to stand up for Israel and Canada’s Jewish community is now. The problem isn’t Israel, it’s Hamas.
Rhetoric such as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s recent remarks enables Hamas to continue to use the Palestinian civilian population as human shields to advance its genocidal goal. The blood of dead babies – Israeli and Palestinian – is on Hamas.
Raise your voice. Participate in our Action Alert to tell Mr. Trudeau that Israel needs Canada’s support in its war against terrorism.
It takes just a minute to add your voice and support the democracy of Israel while rejecting the hate and terrorism of Hamas.
CIJA President & CEO Shimon Koffler Fogel sat down with the Globe and Mail to explore the complexities behind the frightening rise of violence directed at Jews in Canada.
An enlightening letter to the editor in the The Hill Times by Becca Wertman-Traub, CIJA's Director of Research, clarifies the biased and dangerous perspective on the Israel-Hamas War held by a self-proclaimed Canadian ‘peace’ group.
In the Toronto Star earlier this week, Jess Burke, CIJA's Director of EDI and Education, and Jasmine Kranat, Founder and Director of the Atlantic Canada Holocaust Education Foundation, reflected on the troubling similarities between the Holocaust and the October 7 Hamas massacre.

Join our Legal Task Force
The dramatic rise in antisemitism isn’t just isolated to other parts of the world, it’s happening here in Canada too. Led by CIJA and UJA, a group of 150 lawyers are already hard at work using the law to combat the Jew-hate we are seeing. And other legal groups are being created in Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and around the country. With lawyers working in various areas of law – including human rights, labour and employment, and criminal law – they will focus especially on the education system because universities and schools have failed to keep our kids safe.
This has to change. If you are a lawyer, please volunteer. Email us at [email protected] .
