Report From The Special Representative On Combatting Islamophobia Should Concern All Canadians

Attribute to Noah Shack, Interim President, Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs:
“On the eve of the Government of Canada’s National Forum on Combatting Antisemitism, it is alarming that the government has published a report that demonizes the internationally recognized definition of antisemitism, which it has adopted, and undermines its own approach to combatting the explosion of anti-Jewish attacks in Canada.
“Ms. Elghawaby’s report contains references to extreme positions that seek to police Jewish identity in public schools and perpetuate age-old antisemitic lies and stereotypes of Jewish conspiracy, power, and wealth.
“Most concerning is that the report draws upon references to definitions of anti-Palestinian racism that attempt to shut down criticism of narratives. Under this distorted framework, denouncing Hamas – the terrorists behind the October 7 massacre – could be portrayed as an act of racism. This should concern all Canadians.”
