Report From The Special Representative On Combatting Islamophobia Should Concern All Canadians

“On the eve of the Government of Canada’s National Forum on Combatting Antisemitism, it is alarming that the government has published a report that demonizes the internationally recognized definition of antisemitism, which it has adopted, and undermines its own approach to combatting the explosion of anti-Jewish attacks in Canada.
“Ms. Elghawaby’s report contains references to extreme positions that seek to police Jewish identity in public schools and perpetuate age-old antisemitic lies and stereotypes of Jewish conspiracy, power, and wealth.
“Most concerning is that the report draws upon references to definitions of anti-Palestinian racism that attempt to shut down criticism of narratives. Under this distorted framework, denouncing Hamas – the terrorists behind the October 7 massacre – could be portrayed as an act of racism. This should concern all Canadians.”
