Toronto, ON – March 13, 2026 – Today, the Honourable Doug Downey, Attorney General of Ontario, will be filing an emergency injunction on behalf of the provincial government to stop the "Al Quds Day" rally planned for tomorrow, Saturday, March 14.

In response to this, Michelle Stock, Vice President, Ontario, of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) issued the following statement:

“Today’s decision by the province to seek an emergency injunction to stop the planned Al Quds Day rally reflects the seriousness of the threat facing our communities.

“Al Quds Day was established by the Islamic regime to promote the destruction of Israel and has served as a platform for extremist rhetoric, antisemitic conspiracy theories, and support for terrorist organizations including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a listed terrorist entity in Canada.

“This legal action comes at an especially dangerous moment. In the past week alone, there have been six incidents of gunfire targeting synagogues, Jewish and Iranian-owned businesses, and the United States Consulate in Toronto, the planned location for this rally.

“We commend the Premier and the provincial government for taking decisive action to protect public safety and for recognizing the seriousness of the situation. We hope the court will carefully consider the significant risks to community safety when making its decision.

“While peaceful protest is a right in Canada, the glorification of terrorist organizations, the spread of extremist ideology, and the incitement of violence have no place in our communities. Amidst rising threats and violence, every level of government must use every tool available to ensure the safety of residents."
