THERE’S NO JUSTIFICATION FOR ANTISEMITISM IN CANADA

Toronto, ON – March 18, 2025 – With demonstrations taking place across the country and Al Quds Day events scheduled to begin days from now, Noah Shack, Interim President, Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) released the following statement:

"For the past 18 months, Jewish schools have been shot at, synagogues firebombed, and Jewish neighbourhoods targeted. Just yesterday, a man in Toronto was released on bail despite facing 19 hate crime charges, including incitement to genocide; and today, a Winnipeg man already charged with defacing walls and fences with antisemitic graffiti, now faces four terrorism charges.

"At protests across Canada, terrorist flags fly while Canadian flags burn. Protesters call for our community to be destroyed and chant 'Jews, go back to Europe.' Protesters have veered from demonstrating outside consulates to the heart of Jewish communities. Some have turned their hatred into violence against Jewish-owned businesses and institutions.

"Nothing happening around the world justifies antisemitism or violence against Canadians. We call on leaders at all levels of government to take decisive action to keep our country safe. Those who break the law to advance a hateful agenda must be held accountable."
