Federal Budget Fails to Invest in Community Security
Ottawa, ON – November 4, 2025 – In response to the 2025 federal budget tabled today in the House of Commons, Noah Shack, CEO, Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA), issued the following statement:
"On the same day that a synagogue was vandalized for the tenth time in two years, we were disappointed that the federal budget did not prioritize investment in community security.
“During the election, the Prime Minister committed to ‘significantly increase the annual budget of the Canada Community Security Program,’ and told our community that ‘increased security costs amidst rising antisemitism should not be borne by the Jewish community alone.’ Today’s budget failed to deliver on these promises.
“Jewish Canadians take extraordinary security measures every day in our schools, community centres, and synagogues that should be unthinkable in a country like Canada. These are painfully necessary in light of the serious threats and growing extremism confronting our society. The government has a clear responsibility to prioritize investment in these initiatives, which are now essential to protecting lives and ensuring community life can thrive.
“All Canadians deserve to live in safety and security. We urge the government to move forward without delay.”
