CIJA Statement On TIFF Screening ‘The Road Between Us’
Toronto, ON – August 20, 2025 – Today, the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) announced the screening date for the Canadian documentary ‘The Road Between Us,’ at Roy Thomson Hall on September 10 at 2:00 p.m.
In response, Noah Shack, CEO, Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs released the following statement:
“We acknowledge Cameron Bailey’s apology, but this goes far beyond a ‘communication’ issue. TIFF needs to take responsibility for uninviting ‘The Road Between Us’ and ensure that this never happens again.
“The film’s reinstatement is an important first step. But more must be done to restore TIFF’S credibility and integrity, and to make Canadian cultural spaces truly inclusive for Jewish Canadians.
“‘The Road Between Us’ is a story of courage, survival, and the cost of unchecked extremism. Canadians now have an opportunity to respond to this incident in the most powerful way possible: by going to see this important and moving documentary.
“We encourage everyone to attend the screening, and send a clear message that hate and intimidation will never define who we are as Canadians.”
