Ottawa, ON – July 28, 2025 – In response to Prime Minister Carney’s comments on the ongoing situation in the Middle East, Noah Shack, CEO, Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, released the following statement:

“Over the past 22 months, Canada has consistently maintained that Hamas must have no future role in Gaza. It was Hamas that started this war—perpetrating brutal attacks, including the murder and rape of civilians, taking hundreds of hostages, stealing aid from its own people, and inflicting immense suffering on both Israelis and Palestinians.

“Today, Prime Minister Carney committed to taking steps to advance a future for the Palestinians that is free from Hamas.

“We welcome the Prime Minister’s commitment. The path forward begins with sustained pressure on Hamas to release all Israeli hostages and ensure that no actions embolden Hamas to continue its campaign of violence. As a next step, we urge Canada to work with international partners to disarm Hamas and ultimately remove them from Gaza and the West Bank in order to secure a peaceful future for Palestinians and Israelis.”
