Toronto, ON – August 7, 2025 – In a statement issued Wednesday, Hamas called on its supporters to escalate violence and intimidation tactics in “cities, capitals, and public squares” around the world this weekend (August 8-10).

That call is already gaining traction, including in Canada. On X, Charlotte Kates, International Coordinator of the Canadian-listed terrorist entity Samidoun, shared Hamas' message with her followers. Kates also urged them “to advance and escalate our tactics” and called for “direct action that imposes a material cost […] is the highest priority.”

In response, Noah Shack, CEO, Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, released the following statement:

“Last week, we warned that Prime Minister Carney’s plan to recognize Palestinian statehood would embolden extremists—abroad and at home.

"Today, those warnings are being realized. Hamas is now openly calling for global violence—including here in Canada.

“Just days ago, Congregation Emanu-El in Victoria—Canada’s oldest continuously operating synagogue—was defaced with vile, antisemitic graffiti, including death threats against Jews.

“We urge leaders at every level of government to reverse actions that embolden extremism, urgently boost Jewish community security, and ban the glorification of terrorism.”
