Birju Dattani, who was set to become Canada’s new head of the Canadian Human Rights Commission resigned Aug. 12, after an independent report was sharply critical of his failure during the vetting process to disclose the numerous names he used on social media and in academic speeches.

The bizarre story of the federal government’s appointment of Birju Dattani as Canada’s chief commissioner of the Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC) took another odd twist this week.
Justice Minister ARIF VIRANI said in a statement yesterday that he is still “considering the matter” of the new Human Rights Chief Commissioner’s controversial appointment.
The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) said it was shocked and hurt by Capital Pride saying it stood with Palestine.
By making anti-Israel policy a centrepiece of Capital Pride, CIJA said it “creates a climate where Jews are targeted, unwelcome and unsafe.”
The newly appointed head of the Canadian Human Rights Commission, Birju Dattani, has taken a leave of absence the day before starting his new job following an investigation into his past anti-Israel activism.
"Part of the growing Islamophobic sentiment we are witnessing is fuelled by the pink-washing of the war in Gaza and racist notions that all Palestinians are homophobic and transphobic."
