Combat Hate and Antisemitism
According to a Jewish Federation of British Columbia Survey, nearly two-thirds of community members reported experiencing “at least one antisemitic incident”.
Ensuring that we can effectively fight antisemitism, as well as all forms of hate, builds a safe B.C. for all communities
Recommendations:
- Resolve barriers to accountability for antisemitism, and other types of racism, discrimination, and hate crimes through civil and criminal laws and processes.
- Ensure that provincially funded post-secondary institutions have standardized policies to protect students, faculty, and staff facing antisemitism and other forms of hate.
Questions for candidates:
- Despite changes to BC Prosecution Service policies and implementation of federal laws, Jewish community members still feel vulnerable. What would you do to restore a sense of safety and security for your Jewish constituents?
- B.C. is home to several high-profile cases of antisemitic hate, where there has been little accountability. What will you do to resolve these barriers?
- According to a Jewish Federation of B.C. survey, one-in-five antisemitic incidents experienced by community members happened on a post-secondary campus. What will you do to ensure that campuses remain hate-free spaces?
