These two powerful words express the commitment of our community to never allow a repeat of one of the darkest chapters in human history.
However, we know that antisemitism is, once again, on the rise. In B.C., hate motivated incidents targeting Jewish people rose by 59 percent between 2019 and 2021, so it is critical that we learn from the experiences and lessons of the Holocaust.
On October 30, Premier David Eby took a big step by announcing that B.C. will mandate inclusion of Holocaust education in the province’s K-12 curriculum.
As we face distortion of Holocaust history and disinformation about antisemitism today, this decision shows the B.C. Government’s commitment to never again.
B.C. is only the second province, after Ontario, to introduce mandatory Holocaust education in its K-12 curriculum.
