Tell Mayor Valerie Plante that Bochra Manaï must go
Join the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) and Federation CJA in calling on Mayor Valerie Plante to do the right thing and replace antiracism commissioner Bochra Manaï. Tested in crisis, Manaï failed and has now lost the confidence of Montrealers.
Manaï proudly attended several rallies across the city; but, rather than call out the hate and antisemitism when it emerged, Manaï remained silent. In the subsequent weeks while the Jewish community endured unprecedented antisemitism, including attacks against Jewish institutions, Manaï continued to opt for silence. Only later did she make her voice heard when she engaged in disqualifying social media conduct, including her promotion of an account that celebrated the October 7 massacre by Hamas terrorists of Israeli civilians.
All leaders are tested in times of crisis. Manaï’s conduct has demonstrated a complete lack of concern for Montreal’s Jewish community as they have endured shocking antisemitic attacks and a period of unparalleled hate.
