British pop icon Boy George and Culture Club are coming to Vancouver as part of the PNE’s 2026 Summer Night Concerts series on September 7.
For decades, Boy George has brought people together through music. More recently, many in our community were moved by his powerful AI-assisted single, We Will Dance Again, expressing solidarity with Israel and remembering the victims of the October 7 terrorist attacks — people who, as Boy George put it, were murdered “for the crime of dancing.
Now, ahead of his Vancouver appearance, the PNE has received complaints, requests for refunds, and calls to cancel the concert.
The PNE has rightly said the show will go on.
In response to the calls for cancellation, the PNE reaffirmed its “strong position of non-censorship,” its commitment to freedom of expression, and its longstanding tradition of allowing audiences to decide which artists they want to see and support.
Artists should not face demands for cancellation because they express solidarity with Israelis, commemorate victims of terrorism, or use their art to bring people together.
Many members of the Jewish community are already planning to attend the concert. Now, we have an opportunity to make our support heard.
Take action today. Thank the PNE for standing by its commitment to artistic freedom and freedom of expression — and show Boy George that Canada welcomes him.
