Recording | Witness to Munich: The Karen James Story
September 5, 2026 marks 54 years since the Munich Massacre, when the Palestinian terrorist organization Black September murdered 11 members of Israel’s Olympic team during the 1972 Summer Games.
The attack shocked the world, and its legacy continues to reverberate today.
On September 2, CIJA and the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame (IJSHOF) hosted a special event featuring the story of Canadian Olympic swimmer Karen James, who was there when the tragedy unfolded.
Through a screening of a powerful documentary produced by the IJSHOF and a live conversation with Karen, we heard her first-hand account of what she witnessed, the impact it had on her, and why the world must never forget what happened in Munich.
Our synagogues, community institutions, and businesses have been shot at and firebombed. Canadian authorities have disrupted terrorist plots, while security services have warned about threats from Iran’s Islamic regime and other extremist actors.
That is why CIJA, together with the Canadian Families of Victims of October 7, is calling on the Government of Canada to get tough on terrorism and ensure terrorists and their proxies find no safe haven in this country.
The most meaningful way we can honour those murdered by terrorism is not only to remember them, but to demand action in their memory.
