Questions for Candidates

  1. Every week there have been protests in our streets with terrorist flags flown and hateful chants repeated, with very few consequences. What will you do to implement stronger enforcement that restores public order?

  2. Over the Jewish holidays, our places of worship have had to invest resources to protect our ability to pray without harassment; our Jewish schools require 24/7 police surveillance. What will you do to keep our community safe, and will you support more financial investments to offset the high cost this has incurred to our Jewish organizations?

  3. We have seen Ottawa, Vaughan, and now Toronto consider safe access zone by-laws to mitigate the impact of protests. For over a year, our community has been calling on the provincial government to adopt “bubble zone” legislation that would apply across the province to community centres, schools, and places of worship. Harassing specific groups due to their religion is not just a Jewish problem. Will your party work with municipalities to develop laws that support the safety and security of all Ontarians by creating safe access zones for places of worship, schools, and community centres?

  4. As our community continues to suffer with unprecedented levels of hate crime, we continue to hear excuses that our criminal laws are inadequate to make arrests even in clear cases of hate crime. If elected, how will you push for stronger laws to be enforced to reflect the world today and address this gray area that continues to embolden our agitators?

  5. There have been some instances where we have seen footage online of police mishandling clear instances of hate and harassment. Often it is due to their misunderstanding of what antisemitism is. How will you ensure that the people meant to protect us understand the risks to our community and apply their assessment of things through the lens of antisemitism?

  6. We continue to see our events cancelled for safety concerns, or our allies harassed for speaking out against antisemitism. What actions can you take as an elected member to stop this from happening?
