Points to Consider When You Share Your Concerns

Thank you to those of you who have already written to your Mississauga City Council and/or the Integrity Commissioner regarding the Mayor Parrish's unacceptable behaviour.

For those who have not had a chance to voice your concerns, we have shared below various ways to have your voice heard and some talking points you can use to draft your email to either your City Councillor or the Integrity Commissioner.

Methods to Have Your Voice Heard:

  1. If you reside in Mississauga: Contact your Mississauga City Councillor by using this link. If you do not reside in Mississauga, call one or more Mississauga City Councillors as a community member in support of others living there.

  2. Communicate that you support the City Council members who oppose this vigil and demand that, if the Mayor does not apologize unreservedly by Friday, November 22, Mayor Parrish be censured by City Council for her offensive remarks and mishandling of the vigil.

  3. Request that the Integrity Commissioner conduct an inquiry as to whether the Mayor contravened Rules 9 and 12 of the Mississauga Code of Conduct by filling out this form and emailing it to: [email protected]

  4. Forward this message to others concerned about our community’s values and safety.

Talking Points to Include:

  • It is unacceptable that a planned vigil of Palestinian terrorist leaders, including Yayha Sinwar, was scheduled to take place in Celebration Square.
  • City property should never be used to honour a person responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians and who masterminded the October 7 attack in Israel.
  • The Jewish community is grateful for the support from many City Councillors who opposed this vigil taking place on city property.
  • Mayor Parrish did not waver in her desire to give the CD4HR the space to spread anti-Israel and antisemitic rhetoric.
  • During a City Council meeting on November 13, the Mayor made an egregious comparison between mass murderer Yahya Sinwar, and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Nelson Mandela.
  • Mayor Parrish sullied Mississauga's reputation and should be ashamed of her actions.
  • Parrish has a history of making morally inexcusable statements, as in 2018 when she was reprimanded by her peers for racially insensitive comments.
  • Parrish's Twitter account features offensive tweets from her time both as a Liberal MP and as a City Councillor, notably in 2015 when she posted that she “does not get into discussions with Zionists...” finding it to be a “fruitless exercise.”
  • Parrish's lack of leadership regarding the vigil and morally indefensible remarks comparing Nelson Mandela and Yahya Sinwar must be addressed.
  • Parrish should apologize for her mishandling of the vigil and her offensive remarks.
  • Mississauga City Council should move to censure the Mayor Parrish until she recognizes the impact of her words.
