Recommended Resources for Parents in K-12 Education
Navigating Antisemitism in K-12 Toolkit: This resource, published by the Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver, provides parents with practical guidance for documenting incidents, supporting their children, and escalating concerns appropriately.
Report Hate to CIJA: if you have experienced or witnessed antisemitism, use CIJA’s national reporting tool, which tracks and documents incidents to measure and combat antisemitism nationwide. In an emergency, always call 911 first. For hate crimes or suspicious incidents, contact your local police and then your community security agency.
Request Legal Assistance: CIJA’s Legal Task Force (LTF) provides free legal support for those targeted by antisemitism. Begin by completing the intake form and a Staff Lawyer will follow up within three business days. For urgent cases, email [email protected].
Consult the Canadian Handbook on the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism: An effective resource in efforts to address and combat antisemitism, including guidance for education and educational institutions.
Advocate for Training: Parents can advocate for the implementation of Unlearn It and other antisemitism training programs for teachers, administrators, and staff to ensure schools are equipped to identify and address antisemitism in the classroom and beyond.
