FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, ON—October 9, 2026—
Following a week of demonstrations across Canada celebrating the terrorists responsible for the October 7 attacks, including a protest at the University of Toronto that declared itself an extension of the massacre, further events are planned this weekend in cities across the country, with organizers celebrating three years of “resistance” and honouring “martyrs.” The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) released the following statement:

“This weekend, extremists across Canada will celebrate what they call ‘resistance’ to mark the third anniversary of October 7, in which Hamas terrorists murdered 1,200 people, kidnapped more than 250 innocent civilians and committed widespread sexual violence, including against Canadians.

“On October 7, protesters at the University of Toronto openly declared their rally an extension of the terrorist attacks. Addressing a cheering crowd, a speaker quoted Hamas commander Mohammed Deif, one of the architects of the massacre, before concluding with ‘glory to the martyrs,’ ‘victory to the resistance’ and ‘globalize the intifada.’ And last summer Toronto Police arrested and charged a leader of the pro-Palestinian movement with alleged ties to Hamas, a banned terrorist group in Canada.

“For the families of the eight Canadians murdered that day, the meaning of this so-called ‘resistance’ is painfully clear.

“Raquel Look, whose son Alexandre was murdered by Hamas at the Nova Music Festival, said: ‘I have sat and watched as people take to Canadian streets and glorify what they call “resistance,” while families like mine are left knowing exactly what the “resistance” they are celebrating looks like—it looks like my son being murdered.’

“As we saw in Belleville, we are not in a neutral environment. Canada’s Integrated Threat Assessment Centre warns that the increase in frequency and severity of threats ‘influence some susceptible individuals towards violent extremist pathways.’

“The open-air radicalization on our streets and campuses with extremists glorifying terrorism as ‘resistance,’ as families gather to mourn those murdered, demand moral clarity from civic leaders about what is acceptable in our society and authorities must take action against those who incite violence.”
