Amnesty International has released the findings of its most recent "independent" investigation into the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. CIJA has issued a press release regarding this report, one that is another in a long line of the spurious, anti-Israel publications Amnesty International has issued.

Amnesty International has a long history of anti-Israel bias, consistently promoting false narratives and, over six decades, demonizing the world’s only Jewish state. This latest report is yet another example of Amnesty’s blatant application of a double standard against a country that is exercising its legitimate right – in fact, its obligation – to defend itself against terrorist groups calling for its destruction. Amnesty’s report and continued anti-Israel campaign are part of a legal assault against Israel that is designed to delegitimize and weaken it on the world stage and to embolden those seeking its destruction.

To support its agenda of smearing Israel, Amnesty International has tried to redefine the concept of “genocide,” claiming that the universally accepted legal definition is an “overly cramped interpretation of international jurisprudence and one that would effectively preclude a finding of genocide in the context of an armed conflict.” This alone is enough to undermine any credibility the report might have generated.

This report follows Hamas’ barbaric terrorist attacks, where more than 1,200 men, women, and children in Israel were raped, tortured, and murdered, and 251 others taken hostage into Gaza. Yet, this report completely ignores the context of this conflict: Hamas’ explicitly genocidal intentions, which include not only eradicating Israel but also eliminating Jews worldwide. Instead of holding terrorists accountable, Amnesty inexplicably inverts the narrative, blaming Israel for the violence perpetrated against it.

Amnesty omits mention of Israel’s repeated efforts to minimize civilian casualties by issuing warnings before targeted strikes and, despite the extraordinary challenges of combatting a terrorist group like Hamas, Israel’s adherence to international law. By contrast, Hamas deliberately embeds its operations in densely populated areas, schools, and hospitals, using its own people as human shields to maximize civilian harm and distort global opinion. All these facts, which are inconsistent with the report’s spurious premise, are omitted.

This Amnesty International report is both biased and dangerous. By ignoring Hamas’ war crimes and shifting the blame onto Israel, Amnesty legitimizes the actions of a terrorist organization – one listed as such in Canada and internationally. This distortion of the facts fuels antisemitism globally and emboldens extremists who seek to destabilize the region and spread hate worldwide.

As summarized by Richard Marceau, CIJA’s Vice President, External Affairs and General Counsel: “This biased report belongs in one place only: the trash bin.” Read our statement here

Sincerely,
CIJA
