Next week, Members of Parliament return to Ottawa to resume work on legislation and government action meant to improve life for all Canadians. They do so at a critical moment—and we need your help to send a clear message to decision-makers.
While MPs were on break, threats against Canadians did not let up: holiday shoppers across the country harassed by extremists calling for violence; protesters disrupting New Year’s Eve celebrations in Montreal with images glorifying Hamas; and Winnipeg’s oldest synagogue desecrated with vile Nazi symbols.
Words of condemnation are not enough. Only decisive action will safeguard Canadians.
What's needed is for our elected officials to provide clear direction for authorities to enforce existing laws, and to advance legislation that keeps our communities safe—including Bill C-9, the Combatting Hate Act, which would provide additional tools for law enforcement and prosecutors.
That’s why today we joined five other organizations, united across our community, to call on all MPs to strengthen Bill C-9 through targeted amendments, such as a new offence for the wilful promotion of terrorism, and to pass this legislation.
Join us in urging the Justice Minister and Opposition critics to build consensus and move forward without delay.
