As Pro-Terror Demonstrations Mark October 7, CIJA Calls on Authorities to Enforce the Law
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON—October 7, 2026 — With dozens of demonstrations scheduled in Canadian cities marking the third anniversary of the October 7 terrorist attacks, the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) is calling on governments, police and public institutions to enforce the law and their own rules. Noah Shack, CEO of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs released the following statement:
“Across Canada radical extremists are organizing demonstrations celebrating 'resistance' marking the anniversary of the October 7 terrorist attacks perpetrated by Hamas – The Islamic Resistance Movement. Hamas' so-called 'resistance' murdered 1,200 people and kidnapped more than 250 innocent civilians, including eight Canadians, with attackers committing widespread sexual violence.
"These demonstrations are the latest iteration of the disruptive pro-Hamas protests that have taken place in Canadian cities over the last three years, featuring calls for violence, anti-Jewish hate and open-air radicalization. These pro-terror protests have blocked major roads, intimidated communities and consumed significant police resources.
"There cannot be one set of rules for radical extremists, and another for everyone else. Municipalities have bylaws. Universities have codes of conduct. Canada has laws. They must be enforced fairly and consistently.
“Canada's Integrated Threat Assessment Centre has warned about the consequences of turning a blind eye: when targeting of the Jewish community becomes frequent and normalized, it can push susceptible individuals toward violence.
“Events praising the ‘resistance’ responsible for the October 7 atrocities as communities gather to mourn the murdered demands moral clarity from civic leaders about what is acceptable in our society.”
