Position Overview 

CIJA is seeking a strong writer, social media operator, and strategic communicator to lead community-oriented communications and marketing initiatives in Quebec. Working as part of the Quebec and national communications teams, along with Federation CJA partners, the Associate Director will help communicate CIJA’s priorities, engage the Jewish community, and bring the organization's perspectives to public conversations. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of Quebec's Jewish community and the region's media, political, and cultural landscape. This role combines media relations, digital communications, community engagement and timely responses to emerging issues. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop and implement communications plans that support CIJA’s advocacy priorities in Quebec.  
  • Write and edit press releases, media advisories, opinion pieces, speeches, talking points, newsletters, and community updates in French and English. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and producers across Quebec's Jewish and English-language media. Support the broader team in engaging francophone media.  
  • Identify opportunities for media coverage, develop story pitches, coordinate interviews, and prepare spokespersons with relevant background materials. 
  • Monitor news, public debate, and social media to identify developments affecting Quebec’s Jewish community and recommend appropriate and at times, urgent, responses. 
  • Alongside Federation CJA partners, support crisis communications, including preparing accurate, timely statements and coordinating messaging with regional and national colleagues. 
  • Manage Quebec-focused digital content, including social media, email communications, and website updates. 
  • Develop marketing materials and campaigns that encourage participation in advocacy initiatives, events, and community activities. 
  • Adapt national campaigns for Quebec audiences, ensuring that language, tone, and content reflect the cultural landscape 
  • When necessary, coordinate translation and proofreading to maintain clear, consistent messaging across both languages. 
  • Work with Federation CJA and community partners to share information, promote initiatives, and extend the reach of CIJA’s communications. 
  • Track media coverage and social media channels, using findings to improve future communications. 

Qualifications and Experience 

  • At least three years of relevant experience in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or public affairs. 
  • A degree or diploma in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience. 
  • Excellent French and English writing, editing, and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong knowledge of Quebec current affairs and its media, political, and cultural landscape. 
  • Experience in adapting complex or sensitive issues into clear, accessible, and persuasive communications. 
  • Demonstrated experience in media relations and digital content development. 
  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms, website content management systems, social media management tools, and analytics. 
  • Ability to produce basic visual content using Canva or similar software; photography and video editing skills are assets. 
  • Sound judgment, discretion, attention to detail, and the ability to work calmly under tight deadlines. 
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities independently and collaboratively. 
  • An understanding of issues affecting Jewish communities, including antisemitism and Israel-related public discourse, and a commitment to CIJA’s non-partisan advocacy mission. 

Working Conditions: 

  • Located in our Montreal offices. 
  • This position may require occasional travel for meetings, conferences, and events. 
  • Flexibility in work hours, with some evenings or weekends may be required  
  • Hybrid work environment (optional/depending on company policy).
