Advocacy and Law: Addressing Antisemitism on Campus

Sayeh Hassan

Sayeh Hassan – Moderator

Sayeh Hassan is a staff lawyer with CIJA’s Legal Task Force (LTF). She earned her B.A. from Carleton University in 2003 and her LL.B. from the University of Ottawa in 2006. Sayeh practiced criminal law for 14 years before expanding her focus to Charter litigation and criminal appellate work. She has successfully appeared before all levels of court in Ontario, including the Court of Appeal.

Sayeh is the author of A Practitioner’s Guide to Preparing and Presenting Bail Hearings and, more recently, Canadian University Law: Essentials for Legal and Higher Education Professionals. In her current role at CIJA, she assists community members with a wide range of regulatory and human rights issues related to antisemitism.

Rabbi Seth Goren

Originally from Philadelphia, Seth is Hillel Ontario's Chief Executive Officer, as well as a Ph.D. candidate at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto. After earning a B.A. and M.A. in linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania and teaching English in the Czech Republic.

Jacqueline Dressler

A seasoned advocate, Jacqueline has extensive experience combating antisemitism on university campuses. She has served as a consultant to university leadership on addressing antisemitism on campus, engaging and collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders to develop comprehensive policies, promote inclusive practices, and create a safer environment for Jewish students.

Scott Goldstein

Scott Goldstein

Scott Goldstein serves as the Director of University Relations at the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA), the advocacy agent of Jewish Federations across Canada. His primary focus is on addressing the advocacy needs of the Jewish community within post-secondary institutions.

Anita Bromberg

Anita Bromberg

Anita Bromberg is a lawyer, a member of the Ontario Bar and a leading member of the Campus Team of CIJA’s Legal Task Force. She frequently serves as a spokesperson, lecturer, trainer, and media representative on issues impacting racialized communities. As a court-recognized expert on racism and extremism, she has been instrumental in initiating and participating in numerous intercultural outreach and educational initiatives. 

Presently, Anita is actively engaged in various interfaith efforts, including Canadian Conversations and the Transformation Institute, where she works to build understanding between communities. 

David Rosenfeld

David Rosenfeld

David is a Partner at Koskie Minsky LLP where he focuses his practice on complex legal disputes involving large numbers of people – including class actions and litigation for the firm's labour and pension clients.

David Rosenfeld has been volunteering with the CIJA Legal Task Force - Campus Team following October 7. He is lead counsel in Szweras v TMU, representing a student suing TMU for failing to apply its own policies to antisemitic and other harassing conduct.
