October 24 is Election Day in municipalities across Ontario. Voters will choose their mayors, local and regional councillors, and school board trustees. Our municipal representatives are important leaders on many of the issues that matter most to our community.

Why do municipal elections matter and how can you have an impact? 

Watch this panel discussion about the elections co-hosted by CIJA, UJA Genesis, and CJPAC. You’ll learn more about some of the issues at stake, why each of the positions up for election are important, and how you can have an impact. 

What can municipal leaders do to fight antisemitism? 

Local mayors, regional and city councillors, and school board trustees all make decisions that impact the Jewish community.  

Many in our community are deeply concerned about rising antisemitism in cities across Ontario. Antisemitism is increasingly present in our schools, parks, streets, and other civic spaces. 

In January 2022, CIJA hosted a municipal summit on antisemitism, chaired by outgoing Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. Mayor Bevilacqua challenged municipal leaders across Ontario to join him in pledging to take the following five steps to combat antisemitism: 

Use social media to urge local candidates to take a stand against antisemitism. Like and share the 5 Steps Municipal Leaders can take to Combat Antisemitism social posts and tag your local candidates so they know it is important you.

Please do your civic duty and cast your vote for mayor, councillor, and trustee.  

Election Day: Monday, October 24, 2022 

Advance polls: Friday, October 7 to Friday, October 14, 2022
