Starting salary range: $119,600 to $150,800

Position Summary:
This position has overall responsibility for the central planning, facilitation, and local and global engagement functions within the Federation. The Vice President (‘VP’) ensures that Federation fulfills its central planning and community facilitation role by developing and maintaining mechanisms and structures that support the long-term capability and viability of our partner agencies to meet community needs.
This position is also responsible for identifying and implementing improvements to existing engagement programs and identifying new opportunities to achieve Federation’s strategic goals. The VP informs the Executive Leadership Team of new and emerging issues in the community and provides strategic advice on social and educational trends that may impact Federation activities.
Job Responsibilities:
Leadership:
1. Provides operational and team leadership to Federation’s community planning and engagement activities across the Lower Mainland and emerging communities in BC.
2. Fosters a positive environment by building, inspiring and leading high-performing teams and drives the department to ensure they deliver effectively and efficiently to agreed individual and team goals.
3. Oversees strategic recruiting and performance management of team members, maintaining a cohesive and respectful team culture, while ensuring appropriate employee fit, support and development.
4. Supervises and mentors the directors of agency relations and planning and community engagement.
Resource Allocation:
5. Partners with Financial Resource Development staff to identify, explore and recommend new opportunities and possibilities for expanding and diversifying Federation’s revenue streams.
6. Works in collaboration with the Finance Team to plan, review monthly financials, provide direct input to the annual budget for assigned programs, and to make decisions that support those programs within the approved budget.
Strategic Advising:
7. Provides strategic advice to the Executive Leadership Team, the CEO and/or the board, and the Federation’s Planning Council on emerging issues and challenges that have significant consequences for the Federation, financial resource development, annual campaign and/or the community at large.
8. Conducts community-based research and analyzes and interprets major trends and emerging issues and how they can be integrated in Federation priority setting and program development.
9. Represents the Federation on symposia, panels and other events addressing social services, mental health and Jewish education issues.
Community Engagement & Innovation:
10. Identifies and develops potential synergies and connections among various departments and external stakeholders, including planning, agency relations, community engagement and financial resource development.
11. Monitors Federation’s progress on meeting the community strategic priorities and reports on results to the Executive Leadership Team.
12. Takes a lead role in connecting and facilitating discussions with a broad range of community stakeholders including donors, rabbis, educators, partner agencies, subject matter experts and community volunteers to address specific issues impacting community functionality and to develop strategic solutions.
Qualifications:
● Master’s degree in social sciences, business or not-for-profit management.
● 7+ years’ experience working in the not-for-profit sector in a senior management position.
● An ability to think and act strategically, translate research into action.
● Highly developed interpersonal and relationship skills, including effective persuasion, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
● Ability to build strong relationships and practical experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders.
● Demonstrated ability to lead teams to accomplish goals, including performance management and professional development opportunities.
● Capability to thrive in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment.
● Critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills.
● Ability to innovate solutions that benefit the organization and communities it serves.
● Strong project management and performance measurement skills.
● Visionary strategic thinker with ability to execute long-term plans.
● An understanding of the Jewish community structure, connections and needs are an asset.
