Update: Assault at Ottawa Grocery Store

It is now clear that the individual who carried out the stabbing of a Jewish woman at the largest kosher grocery store in Ottawa, proudly and publicly posted virulent antisemitic and anti-Israel content online.

For two years, we have witnessed the continued normalization of antisemitism in Canada, including unrelenting protests that clearly and deliberately target Jews and Jewish life—like the ones targeting Jewish community members at the grocery store where the knife attack occurred. The dangerous message this sends is that hatred of Jews is tolerated in our society.

We are at a tipping point in Canada: inaction in the face of antisemitism is complicity.

We call on all levels of government to act urgently and decisively to ensure the safety and security of Jewish Canadians. Condemnations are not enough—Canada must take concrete steps to protect its citizens and put an end to the spread of violent antisemitism in our communities.
