Today, Toronto Police Chief James Ramer and Toronto Mayor John Tory spoke about the city’s approach to protests taking place this weekend, including the Al Quds Day rally that has included vicious antisemitism in the past.
April 27, 2022 – The Toronto Police Service (TPS) has published their 2021 hate crimes report revealing that hate crimes targeting Jewish, Black, and East and Southeast Asian populations remained the most commonly reported to police, representing 22 per cent, 18 per cent and 16 percent of all hate crimes, respectively.
On Thursday, Statistics Canada released police-reported hate crime data for 2020 revealing that hate crimes targeting the Black and Jewish populations remained the most common reported by police, representing 26% and 13% of all hate crimes, respectively.
Today, the Toronto municipal government passed the 2022 City Budget, which will provide resources to grow the Toronto Police Service’s Neighbourhood Community Officer program and to address hate crime.
