In the internet age, access to an endless amount of information can make us feel mentally overwhelmed. Conspiracy theories may appear attractive because they provide a simple explanation.
Isolation, a greater problem during the COVID-19 pandemic, also helps fuel conspiracy theories. As we spend hours alone, scrolling through social media, we can become trapped in a one-sided feedback loop. We’re at risk of losing contact with reality and the balanced thinking that results from listening to other voices and hearing other perspectives.
