MONTREAL, QC – On the sad occasion of the passing of Father John Walsh, Federation CJA and the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) issued the following:
“Federation CJA is profoundly saddened by the passing of Father John Walsh. A longstanding friend of Montreal’s Jewish community, Father Walsh was a caring soul who embodied the spirit of tikkun olam. A mensch to the core, he will be deeply missed by Jewish Montrealers who will always remember him for his personal devotion to many Jewish causes,” said Federation CJA CEO, Yair Szlak.
“Father John Walsh was indispensable as a man who brought Montreal together. His sincerity and love were powerful forces that helped shape the life of this city,” stated CIJA-Québec Co-Chair and Chair of the Canadian Rabbinic Caucus, Rabbi Reuben Poupko, a close friend.
“Father John Walsh was deeply committed to interfaith dialogue and served as a bridge between Montreal’s Catholic and Jewish communities. A friend of the Jewish community and Israel, he endeared himself to Jewish Montrealers who considered him one of their own. CIJA mourns his passing and joins the Catholic community in their grief,” added CIJA, Vice President, Quebec, Eta Yudin.
