Press Release: CIJA Welcomes Stricter Bail Conditions for Man Accused of Death Threats Against Jewish Schoolgirls

Montreal, QC—Today, stricter bail conditions were imposed on Robert Gosselin, accused of threatening to murder Jewish schoolgirls in Montreal. The Crown banned Gosselin from being on the premises of synagogues and Jewish schools.

The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA), in close coordination with Montreal’s Federation CJA, has been actively monitoring the case, including communicating the community’s concerns to the Crown about Gosselin’s initial bail conditions.

In response, Rabbi Reuben Poupko, Co-Chair of CIJA-Quebec, the advocacy agent of Federation CJA in Montreal, issued the following:

“Mr. Gosselin threatened to murder Jewish schoolchildren. The initial bail conditions should have banned Gosselin from being in the proximity of Jewish institutions. The fact that he is henceforth prohibited from being on the premises of Jewish schools and places of worship, for which we advocated, is of some comfort to Jewish parents and schoolchildren.”

“CIJA-Quebec will continue to closely monitor the case and attend the next hearing on March 4th.”

The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) is the advocacy agent of the Jewish Federations of Canada-UIA.
