As a community, we have worked hard to guarantee that genetic testing will not lead to denial of insurance or employment. In 2017, we successfully urged the federal government to adopt legislation that protects Canadians against genetic discrimination.
The Supreme Court of Canada is currently reviewing an appeal to strike down the legislation we worked so hard to get passed.
While CIJA is focused on ensuring that the federal legislation is upheld, we also believe it is important that the Ontario legislature respond to ensure protection for Ontarians.
Legislation has been introduced at Queen’s Park, but we need your help to make sure it is passed. Email the members of the Standing Committee on the Legislative Assembly and help us ensure genetic discrimination is prohibited in Ontario.
