Job Opportunity: Associate Director of Operations - February 2025

NECA is a non-partisan faculty network that has been active since 2022 and officially launched on March 21, 2024. NECA advocates for strengthening academic freedom, viewpoint diversity, and inclusion on Canadian campuses. NECA works to protect and teach about Jewish identity as well as combat antisemitism. As the only national organization representing Canadian faculty members, NECA provides a credible voice within the higher education sector. Membership has grown significantly since October 7, 2023, from approximately 100 members to nearly 400 members at 45 Canadian universities and colleges.

The organization is 100% volunteer based and led by NECA’s Executive Board. Despite the numerous successes of NECA in providing support and resources to faculty across Canada in combating antisemitism, the day-to-day operations of the organization especially since October 7, 2023, exceed the capacity of the Board, as such, NECA is seeking the support of a full-time employee to work with the Executive Board to advance NECA’s priorities.

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience working in a community-based Jewish organization or demonstrated knowledge of Jewish community and advocacy organizations. They are passionate about Judaism and combating antisemitism and person must have experience dealing with and protecting private and sensitive information in a confidential manner.

Key Areas of Responsibilities

  • Work with the Executive Board to develop and implement NECA’s five-year strategic plan
  • Develop systems for optimizing workflow and incoming requests to NECA
  • Assist the Executive Board in their engagement with Canadian University leadership to commit to NECA coordinating evidence-based training on antisemitism and Jewish identity tailored to higher education
  • Support the Executive Board in building and maintaining key relationships with university administrations, including the President, VP Research, Provost, VP Communications, VP External, EDI Directors, relevant Deans, and others.
  • Represent NECA in community coordination efforts with all leading campus organizations
  • Help in the coordination and organization of letter writing campaigns and other resources produced by NECA members and other scholars.
  • Provide support to NECA’s Executive Board in all their advocacy efforts, including engagement with government officials at all levels, Canada’s Special Envoy on Preserving Holocaust Remembrance and Combatting Antisemitism, local faculty organizations, and NGOs.
  • Support the Executive Board in NECA membership recruitment.
  • Support the Executive Board in their search for a permanent Executive Director.
  • Maintain and grow a network of relevant contacts.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Job Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, or a related field
  • Outstanding organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proven capacity to solve problems and make difficult decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Motivation to contribute within a collaborative team.
  • Confidence in public speaking.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and the ability to effectively learn and use additional systems, including client database software and cloud-based applications.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including travel, evenings, and weekends as required.
  • Experience in academia, including holding an advanced degree, is an asset.
  • Experience in the field of politics and/or public policy is an asset.
  • Experience in pro-Israel and/or Jewish advocacy is an asset.
  • Fluency in French is an asset

The position is 100% remote.
