The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) is a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of Jewish life in Canada through advocacy. CIJA connects the power of a strong, national network to regional efforts in every Canadian province. Our team provides advocacy support to Jewish and pro-Israel communities across the country. 

Position Overview:  
Reporting to the Director, Pacific Region, the Associate Director, External Affairs will be responsible for the partnerships portfolio and outreach strategies to advance CIJA’s strategic objectives and increase its profile in the Pacific Region. This position is responsible for maintaining and strengthening positive and productive relationships with a broad array of organizations and communities including ethno-cultural and First Nations organizations, faith leaders, LGBTQ allies, educators, human rights groups and unions. Working in collaboration with the Pacific Region CIJA colleagues, and as part of the national partnerships team, the selected candidate will actively engage with these organizations to identify and advance issues of common interest and concern. The Associate Director will initiate and coordinate an array of community engagement initiatives and represent CIJA on nongovernmental organizations in the region.

  • ​You enjoy relationship building, grassroots organizing, programming and capacity building.
  • You enjoy developing networks and community connections, liaising with a wide array of stakeholder groups to increase awareness of CIJA advocacy priorities.
  • You were involved in electoral politics, the union movement, community building, or actively engaged with non-for-profits.
  • You are knowledgeable about the Canadian Jewish community including issues of culture, politics and traditions.
  • You have 2 or more years of community development, program delivery and outreach experience.
  • You have an undergraduate degree or higher.
  • You have excellent business writing and communications skills.
  • You don’t mind working flexible hours that can include travel, evenings and weekends as required.
  • You are proficient in MS Office, and have the ability to effectively learn and use additional systems, including client database software and cloud-based applications.
  • You are detail-oriented and can see the big picture.
  • You can work independently and as part of a team both with local and national staff members.
  • You have a comfort with public speaking.
