Hon. Stockwell Day

Hon. Stockwell Day, P.C. was successfully elected nine times over 25 years at two levels of government in two provinces. From 1986 to 2000 he served as a Progressive Conservative MLA, representing Red Deer North in the Alberta Legislature, during which time he held a variety of senior cabinet posts including Ministers of Labour, Social Services, and Provincial Treasurer (Minister of Finance).

In 2000 Mr. Day won the leadership of the Canadian Alliance and became Leader of Canada’s Official Opposition, the subsequent election later increasing the Official Opposition seat count to 66 and its popular vote by more than a million.

In 2006, Stockwell Day was appointed Minister of Public Safety in the Conservative Government. In 2008 he became Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway and in 2010 President of the Treasury Board. He did not seek reelection in the 2011 general election.

Mr. Day attended the University of Victoria and has an Honorary Doctorate from St. Petersburg University. In addition to CIJA, Mr. Day serves on several boards and agencies including Telus, RCI Capital, Mcmillan LLP, AWZ Ventures, China Business Council, International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, and the Asia Pacific Foundation.
