UN Special Rapporteur Praises Gaza Boat ‘Activists’

The protesters who defied a blockade of Gaza by sailing into the territory have since sailed off again.  Israel wisely decided to sit this one out, acting only against one returning citizen who was detained by police for violating the law prohibiting Jewish citizens from entering Gaza.

The same can’t be said for Richard Falk, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories. Falk was on hand to jubilantly greet the “46 human rights activists ” aboard the two “relief vessels.”

In an offical UN press releae, Falk said the landing of the boats was “an important symbolic victory.”

Falk praised the “non-violent initiative” which “focused attention around the world on the stark reality that the 1.5 million residents of Gaza have endured a punitive siege for more than a year.”
