The spokesperson and media training component of CIJA’s educational resource package trains community spokespeople to be effective media communicators by providing the necessary skills to get the right message out through the media at every opportunity. The session gives participants a thorough understanding of the reporter’s needs and identifies the messaging that is most likely to make it into a story. The focus is on messaging and, specifically, communicating messages under what can be challenging circumstances.
The media training session covers various topics, including strategic preparation for an interview and message development, using on-camera simulated media interviews.
In order to fully prepare spokespeople for real-life interviews, attendees participate in video simulations and in reviews and critiques of their interviews. At the end of each session, written evaluations are prepared for participants with suggestions for follow-up and further skills development.
The media training program is an excellent resource for people who may need to communicate to the media about Israel and other topics important to the Jewish community.
