Terrific Tel Aviv Travel Story in NYT

This weekend’s Montreal Gazette  reprinted a great New York Times  travel piece on Tel Aviv.

Seizing the Day in Tel Aviv by Henry Alford sets the scene in the opening paragraphs, when 12-year-old James shows the writer around Tel Aviv’s beaches: ” ‘That’s the separated beach,’ James tells me matter-of-factly, pointing at a group of 30 Orthodox men on the edge of a placid, gorgeous Mediterranean Sea not far from the Hilton hotel. A sign says: ‘The Separated Beach. Bathing days for women: Sun, Tues, Thurs. Bathing days for men: Mon, Wed, Fri.’ Then, pointing at a different group of men just 50 metres down the sand, James adds, ‘And that’s the gay beach.’”
