Ice Festival to open next week at Jerusalem’s Old Railway Station • Dozens of artists, sculptors taking part in establishing the chilled site, which is built out of 7,000 ice chunks • “City” also features skating rink and ice bar.
It may almost be spring, but in Jerusalem, Jack Frost is on his way.
Jerusalem’s first Ice Festival, to be held at the Old Railway Station, will open its doors to the public next Tuesday for the months of March and April. The festival will feature dozens of massive ice sculptures, which depict major sites around the city, animals and children’s stories. There will also be an ice-skating rink at the site and a special treat made completely of ice.
Dozens of artists, sculptors, lighting specialists, designers and builders were involved in establishing the chilled site, which is built out of 7,000 ice chunks.
The festival will span 1,500 temperature-controlled square meters, where the mercury will be set at 10 degrees below zero (Celsius, about 14 degrees Fahrenheit). Guests will be offered coats at the entrance, but it also recommended that visitors arrive with wool hats and gloves to guard against the cold.
After entering through a model Jaffa Gate made entirely of ice, visitors will be able to gaze upon ice Old City Walls, the Tower of David and a host of other frosty models of Jerusalem sites.
