In the coming days, the “Canadian Boat to Gaza” is set to launch as part of a large contingent of ships known as the Gaza flotilla.
The ship’s organizers themselves have openly admitted that their aims are ultimately political and not humanitarian:
“While [Minister of Foreign Affairs] Baird is telling activists to find “legitimate and constructive” ways to help, such as by donating through the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, [flotilla participant David] Heap said the mission is actually less about aid and more about politics.” (Edmonton Journal, May 30, 2011)
So if the mission is about politics – not humanitarianism – then what’s really going on here?
