Israeli Archeological Find Has Canadian Connection
Recently, Israeli archeologists unearthed the earliest known Hebrew text, in an ancient city overlooking the area where David slew Goliath. The finding predates the Dead Sea Scrolls by 1,000 years.
Now the Edmonton Journal reports that a Toronto man helped bankroll the dig. In “Discovery of ancient script has Canadian link,” Matthew Fisher writes: “Torontonian Joey Silver, who provided $30,000 so [Hebrew University archeologist Yosef] Garfinkel could begin to excavate the fortress, said: ‘This is exciting and meaningful because every kid in the western world has heard stories about David and Goliath and David’s son, King Solomon.’”
