If Palestinians are partners for peace with Israel, then it is long past time for them to prove it. The latest terrorist outrage in the heart of Jerusalem proves the necessity once more for Palestinians to end the relentless incitement to violence and to talk with Israelis to end the conflict.
For now, it seems the path Palestinians have chosen is clear:
- Yesterday, a bomb at a bus station in a Jewish neighborhood of Jerusalem left one woman dead and 50 injured.
- Hamas has claimed responsibility for a barrage of rockets fired this week from Gaza into Israel.
- The Itamar massacre of the Fogel family by Palestinian terrorists in the West Bank – an area ruled by the Palestinian Authority with generous support by the West, despite constant incitement against Israel – is still fresh in the memories of Israelis and the rest of the world.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian leadership continues to refuse to talk directly with Israelis living 10 minutes away from Ramallah, instead preferring to go abroad to gather support for a maximalist settlement that ignores Israel altogether – an effort doomed to failure.
If Palestinians truly want peace and an independent state, they must prepare their people for this. The incitement must end. The terror must end.
