Ottawa, Ontario – The Canada-Israel Committee on behalf of the CIJA agencies strongly condemned the gruesome murder of five members of an Israeli family in their home in Itamar on the Sabbath evening of March 11. A knife-wielding Palestinian terrorist is suspected of committing this brutal crime – stabbing to death the mother, father and three children aged 10, 4 and 3-months.
CIC Chair Moshe Ronen remarked: "This is an unspeakably heinous act, a slaughter, that the international community and the Palestinian Authority must strongly and unequivocally condemn. More importantly, the Palestinian Authority and its president must immediately order an end to the anti-Israeli and anti-Jewish incitement that has long become part of daily life in their official media, schools and mosques. Any tolerance of this incitement creates a toxic atmosphere in which the brutal slaying of a young Israeli family may seem the logical course of action for some."
Steven Cummings, National Chair of CIJA, expressed his deep shock and sorrow on behalf of the Canadian Jewish community: "Our hearts go out to the remaining children now left orphans, to the community where they live, and to Israel which mourns this terrible tragedy."
Mr. Cummings added: "Tonight there are reports that the Al-Aqsa Martyr's Brigade, which is part of Fatah, has proudly claimed responsibility. If this proves to be the case, it will not be sufficient for PA president Mahmoud Abbas to merely denounce the attack. He needs, without delay, to disarm and disband a terrorist group operating within his own organization."
