OTTAWA– Liberal leader Bob Rae made the following statement today on Israel Independence Day:

“Today, we celebrate the founding of the State of Israel.

We also celebrate the contributions of the Jewish community to Canadian society, as well as the strong and deep ties between Canada and the people of Israel.

As I reaffirmed to Prime Minister Netanyahu in our February meeting, the Liberal Party continues to be steadfastly committed to Israel’s right to exist and flourish within secure and recognised borders, and remains in solidarity with the people of Israel as they face continuing threats to their peace and security. I look forward to being able to share these same thoughts with President Shimon Peres on his official visit to Canada the first week of May.

On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our parliamentary caucus, I extend my best wishes to all those celebrating the 64th anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel. Yom Ha’atzmaut sameach!”

Déclaration du chef libéral Bob Rae à l’occasion de la Journée de l’indépendance d’Israël

OTTAWA– Le chef libéral Bob Rae a fait la déclaration suivante aujourd’hui à l’occasion de la Journée de l’indépendance d’Israël :

« Aujourd’hui, nous célébrons la création de l’État d’Israël.

Nous célébrons également les contributions de la communauté juive à la société canadienne, ainsi que les liens forts et profonds qui existent entre le Canada et les Israéliens.

Comme je l’ai réaffirmé au premier ministre Netanyahu durant notre rencontre en février, le Parti libéral demeure résolument engagé au droit d’Israël d’exister et de s’épanouir à l’intérieur de frontières sûres et reconnues, et reste solidaire des Israéliens alors que leur paix et leur sécurité sont continuellement menacées. Je serai heureux de pouvoir partager ces pensées avec le président Shimon Peres lors de sa visite officielle au Canada durant la première semaine de mai.

Au nom du Parti libéral du Canada et de notre caucus parlementaire, j’aimerais offrir mes meilleurs vœux à tous ceux qui célèbrent le 64e anniversaire de la création de l’État d’Israël. Yom Ha’atzmaut sameach! »
