According to Reports: ‘Objective’ Reporting and Al-Jazeera

In his weekly Canadian Jewish News media analysis column “According to Reports,” Paul Michaels, CIC Director of Communications,  finds  ex-CBC news chief Tony Burman right at home in his new job at Al-Jazeera.

Writes Michaels:  During the violent years of what became known as the second intifada, CBC coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, especially its television news, was mainly one-sided. The CBC often depicted Israel as a callous oppressor and the Palestinians as helpless victims. This coverage, which lasted from the fall of 2000 until the spring of 2004, was directed by Tony Burman, the head of CBC News.

To every complaint about anti-Israel bias, Burman’s answer was always the same: “I can assure you that our reporters and editors make every effort to be objective and even-handed in their reporting, and I believe they are.”
