Statement by Liberal Leader Bob Rae on Yom Kippur

OTTAWA— Liberal Leader Bob Rae made the following statement today on Yom Kippur:

“On the Day of Atonement, Jews around the world gather to pray, to fast and to reflect. Synagogues across Canada and around the world will fill with friends, family and neighbours who come together to reflect on actions of the past year, and to seek a sense of peace and reconciliation for the new year.

Yom Kippur is a deeply significant holiday for Canada’s Jewish community and a reminder of the traditions which generations of Jewish Canadians have shared with their fellow citizens that have greatly enriched the country.

On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, I extend my warmest wishes to the Jewish community here in Canada and around the world for a meaningful Yom Kippur.

Déclaration du chef libéral Bob Rae à l’occasion du Yom Kippour

OTTAWA— Le chef libéral Bob Rae a fait la déclaration suivante à l’occasion du Yom Kippour :

« En ce jour du Grand Pardon, aux quatre coins du monde, les Juifs se réunissent pour prier, jeûner et réfléchir. Les synagogues du Canada et du monde entier accueilleront amis, familles et voisins rassemblés pour faire un retour sur l’année écoulée et rechercher la paix et la réconciliation pour la nouvelle année.

Le jour du Yom Kippour est une célébration profondément ancrée dans la communauté juive du Canada. Elle leur rappelle les traditions qu’ont partagées des générations de Juifs canadiens avec leurs concitoyens et qui ont grandement contribué à enrichir notre pays.

Au nom du Parti libéral du Canada et de notre caucus parlementaire, je souhaite très sincèrement à la communauté juive d’ici et d’ailleurs une célébration constructive du Yom Kippour.
