On Tuesday evening, CIJA and UJA Federation of Greater Toronto honoured Toronto Mayor John Tory with the Words & Deeds Leadership Award. Recipients of the W&D Award are those who demonstrate – through their words and deeds – that the efforts of one can lead to the benefit of many.
John Tory exemplifies the values and spirit of those honoured at past Words & Deeds events across Canada. His track record, as a businessman, lawyer, broadcaster and politician, stands on its own and is worthy of celebration. But it is his dedication and commitment to repairing the world that truly makes him a fitting choice for the Words & Deeds Award.
I’m especiallyy grateful to Mayor Tory for his contribution to strengthening the relationship between the people of Toronto and Israel. Last November, he joined Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre in leading a mission to Israel focused on building ties between innovative, job-creating businesses in Israel, the GTA, and Montreal.
The mission proved mutually beneficial to Israelis and Torontonians alike:
Beyond honouring our friend and ally Mayor Tory, I’m pleased to report the Words & Deeds Leadership Award Dinner also significantly advanced our advocacy efforts in many other ways.
More than 700 members of the Toronto business, academic, cultural, and political sectors attended, providing CIJA an opportunity to connect, speak about our priorities, and highlight the contributions the Jewish community has made to Canadian society.
Sharing with fellow Canadians the advocacy results CIJA has achieved is a highlight of my role as national chair. That’s why I wanted to make sure you saw this video we debuted at the Words & Deeds dinner, which features some of our recent work:

Every member of our community has a unique voice and contribution to offer when it comes to Jewish and pro-Israel advocacy. Thank you for all that you do, in your own words and deeds, for our shared cause.
